Johan Adam APGAR⁽⁴⁾⁽⁴⁾ was born.⁽⁷⁾ According to the source Johan Adam came with his brother from Rotterdam to Phildelphia aboard the ship "Christian." Of German descent, he came from Lombardy of Italy, in the Alsacc-Lorraine area. He took the oath of allegiance to Pennsylvania on 13 Sep 1749. The name was first spelled EBERT and later EBGERT and EBCHER. In time the name changed to APKER and finally APGAR. Johan Adam bought a farm and settled in Hunterdon Co., NJ. His brother settled in Monmouth Co. NJ.

There is some uncertanity whether this Johan Adam Apgar is the progenitor of this Apgar family. Another Johan Adam Apgar is listed in the IGI of the LDS records (Film 1553807) with an approximate birth of 1705 and listed in Hunterdon, NJ. These two individuals may be one and the same. It is perhaps likely that Johan Adam Apgar was born in 1705 and was married in 1729 (in contrast to one listing in the LDS Ancestral FIle showing his birth in 1729).

To add to the confusion, there is a Johannas Peter Apgar of Hunterdon Co., NJ, listed in LDS IGI records who married a Catherine Sharp about 1735. There is an IGI listing of this Johannes Peter Apgar as the father of this family.

Without looking for records in Hunterdon County it is not possible to sort this out. LDS records are notoriously inaccurate as they are recorded as submitted by individuals without checking and verification of sources.
